Atlanta, GA -- Chris Darling lead the field to the green flag Tuesday night at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and the race would be nothing short of exciting. Darling and Spencer led the majority of the beginning of the race. Darling would drop out of the race getting into a wreck coming out of turn 2 with championship contender Pete Engelmanas, championship leader going in, Mike Husby narrowly missed the accident. The race would restart and with a long green flag run leaders Cory Spencer and Mike Husby decided to stretch their fuel as far as it could go. The caution came out again but would put the majority of the field a lap down. On the restart Spencer and Husby would battle it out with the rest of the field trying to get back on the lead lap, Pete Engelmanas would manage to get by the leaders and get back on the lead lap. The caution came out for Dave Collard spinning out off of turn 2. Leaders would pit for 4 tires and fuel. Restart with 30 laps to go would make the finish of the race very interesting. The majority of the leaders were really close on fuel and went into fuel conservation mode while battling it out for the lead. A few tense moments with championship leaders Mike Husby and Pete Engelmanas saw Husby get by Engelmanas with about 7 laps to go. Spencer was holding a steady lead when Monaco came out of no where with about 5 laps to go, and would make a late race charge to try and win the race but came up just short. Cory Spencer would hold off Monaco and win his first career NASRA Cup Series race. Husby would finish just a ahead of Pete Engelmanas and won the championship by 10 points. Next year should be interesting with a lot of new guys coming in and a longer schedule. See you all next year at Daytona!
